Welcome to the Bay Tree Baker. From sourdough and yeasted breads to seasonal bakes and sweet treats, here you will find a collection of recipes and baking resources to support and inspire you in your home baking journey.
There’s really nothing like making your own bread, the feel of the dough, the smell of a freshly baked loaf and, of course, the eating! I’m a self taught home baker with a particular love for making bread. In fact, once I pulled my first loaf proudly from the oven there was no going back.
I first dabbled with no-knead breads, making some really questionable breads that my family kindly risked their own lives by eating. Spurred on by the encouraging words of my loved ones I moved on to baking yeasted breads with slightly more success. And, as many of my fellow home bread bakers know, it was only a matter of time before I was lost to the world of Sourdough. Fast forward many, many years and I’ve been baking my own bread most weeks now and I still love it.
A lot of people are put off from baking their own bread because they think it’s too time-consuming or difficult. If you can dedicate a bit of time to master the basics then you’ll find it’s really not that hard to fit making a loaf or two of bread into your week. If you’re interested in what goes into the food you buy then making your own bread is a great way to take back some of the control – you can make the most beautiful loaf with just water, yeast, flour and salt.
My aim with this site is to introduce you to the wonderful world of bread and to share with you recipes, tips and tricks to help you make your own bread. There’s a bread for every occasion and I’ve yet to run out of recipes to try!
Roll up your sleeves and put on your pinny – it’s time to get baking!
